Fuel pellets is becoming one of the biggest alternative energy sectors. It grows quickly not only on providing homes and business with heating fuel, but also on providing for coal power plants. To the coal power plants, they are using the fuel pellets made from straw and wood to burn alongside coal to reduce the carbon emissions of the power plants. On a small scale, many people are now interested in producing their own fuel pellets at home or for running a small business, and want to learn how to make wood pellets with sawdust. Actually, many kinds of wood and biomass materials can be compressed into fuel pellets.
To be able to make pellets with sawdust you must first understand that moisture is the key factor. If you want to compress the sawdust into a solid pellet with the pellet mill, it is necessary to ensure the sawdust having a fairly low moisture content of around 15%. The sawdust containing more moisture than required is not optional. One crucial factor to making wood pellets with sawdust is the right pellet mill.
Instructions:
1. Start the pellet mill in which you will make your pellets and wait a few minutes till the metal die inside heat up. The heat will help the moisture in the sawdust steam. The steam in turn melts the lignin in the wood fibers and becomes the bonding agent for the pellets.
2. Place a large container under the chute of the pellet mill to catch the pellets as they are formed. Feed the sawdust with handfuls or small shovelfuls into the hopper of the pellet mill. In a few seconds, pellets will begin to fall out of the chute into the box.
3. Allow the pellets to cool in the container before you handle them. After they cool down, they are ready to be burnt in a pellet stove or a pellet insert. Please store unused pellets in bags in a dry place.
